Susy Roberts

Susy was born and raised in Europe before moving to the United States for work. She had a 30 year career in the U.S. Government. After retiring, Susy moved to Santa Barbara County with her mother to be closer to her sister. They love this area, but they do miss Italy and Colorado.

When asked what drew her to Community Partners in Caring:

“I love that I discovered this amazing organization that helps seniors like my mom. I feel that this is exactly where I need to be in my life. ”

Hobbies:

Susy loves to be with her dogs, and loves to dance. She enjoys working out and doing aerial work as a way to stay fit.

Midge Nicosia

Midge joined the CPC family as our Outreach Coordinator. She just moved back to the central coast after running a non-profit for 15 years that served seniors in the High Desert in San Bernadino County. Midge is an avid dog lover, and behaviorist and has been active in rescue for 30 years. She loves to illustrate and founded a barcode systems integration company in 1994, serving manufacturers and distribution with automated data collection. We are so happy to have you on board Midge!

Kaley Wise

Kaley was born and raised in San Luis Obispo. She went to college at Chico State University, and graduated in 2017. She loves working within her community and helping others. She loves the outdoors and spending time with her dog and family.

Hobbies:

Kaley enjoys playing guitar, going to the gym, taking her dog to the dog park and camping.

Veronica Rubi

Veronica was born and raised in Carpinteria, CA, and moved around Santa Barbara County, residing in Lompoc. She is the first in her family to graduate high school; she also studied for three years in Mexico and became fluent in Spanish. Throughout high school, she volunteered at her local summer camps and got her first job in a senior living community, where she spent the next five years gaining knowledge in elderly care. Having six years of experience in elderly care led her to CPC; she realized her abilities could help contribute to her community and help those who don’t have the support or funds to learn and expand her knowledge in senior care.

When asked what drew her to Community Partners in Caring?

“I, unfortunately, didn’t get the chance to grow up or meet my grandparents, so it was always my goal to help the seniors in my community; CPC was one of the only organizations in my neighborhood that allowed those who couldn’t afford it.

Hobbies:

Veronica enjoys painting, baking, and spending her free time with her family. In addition, she loves going on her family trips to Big Bear during the winter, Las Vegas during the summer, and of course, visiting her town in Mexico.

Esther Salas

Esther was raised in Los Angeles County, and moved to Santa Maria in 2002, due to her husband’s business. Her husband and her have raised 3 children and now have a granddaughter who makes them smile when life seems hard. She has worked in customer service most of her life.

When asked what drew her to Community Partners in Caring:

“When I worked at Merrill Gardens, I discovered that I love to work with seniors. They have the most interesting stories tell.”

Hobbies:

Esther enjoys going to her church. Gardening and shopping are her favorite things to do. She also enjoys spending time with her family.

Lisa Gunstrom

Las was raised in Santa Maria but left in 1989. She moved to Fresno and then New Hampshire with a career in banking. In 1996, Lisa moved to Australia for 23 yrs, working for TRW/Northrop Grumman with a career in business administration.  She finally retired in Feb 2020 to help take care of her mother who was diagnosed with Dementia.

Lisa began volunteering for CPC in 2020 with drives and deliveries before beginning working in the local office.  After seeing the impact and help we can provide to seniors or others that have disabilities, she realized how special this program and vital it has become.

Joanne Deck

Joanne was born and raised in Upstate New York and moved to Santa Barbara from Phoenix, AZ in 2016. She has a background in HR management and recruited, trained, and cared for hospice volunteers at VNA Health for several years. She lives in Goleta with her husband and their Yorkiepoo, Coby. Joanne enjoys beach walks, art shows, and volunteering for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

When asked what drew her to Community Partners in Caring:

“At the start of 2025, I set the intention to find a meaningful job where I could make a difference. When I heard about this role at this organization, I knew I’d found my place.”

Jannette Juarez

Jannette was born and raised in Santa Barbara, and  currently lives in Orcutt CA, with her partner and three children. Throughout her life  she always enjoyed helping those in need and that’s where her love for helping the elderly blossomed. Jannette loves to cook, bake and enjoys taking her kids to try all the local restaurants up and down the central coast. Jannette is a homebody and just enjoys being around the people that she loves.
